Generally, any file or folder that can be accessed through Microsoft File Explorer can be migrated through the Expede Desktop Migration Tool. This includes network drives, local drives, Office 365, OneDrive and most cloud-based storage solutions.
The maximum file size the Expede Desktop Migration Tool can process is governed by Microsoft Azure and is currently 100GB per file.
The limitations of the Expede Desktop Migration Tool is generally governed by the processing power of the computer being used to manage the upload capacity and also the internet bandwidth being used. The Expede Desktop Migration Tool has been developed to enable its deployment across most computer specifications, from average user laptops through to high-capacity virtual machines. File transfer is configured as a multi-thread solution with files being processed on a per thread basis. The higher the system capacity the more files can be processed simultaneously.
For a network migration project, Expede recommends a VM configured with 32 Cores and 32GB of memory with the Migration tool set to maximum upload. Such configurations can typically achieve TB's of data transfer per 24 hours.
For lower specification computers, the upload system utilization can be adjusted to meet the local system capacity all the way down to single file processing.
Expede has worked with Microsoft to permit the migration of data though the internet to Microsoft Azure at no transfer cost.
This enables our customers to move their unstructured data to Microsoft Azure Cloud for processing at a fraction of the cost of trying to process the data locally on network drives.
The Expede Desktop Migration Tool is included within the Expede Platform license and can be distributed to as many users as required without any additional cost. Although the migration process is undertaken for free, there is a charge for file processing and storage. Please contact us for details.
